The last book which I read was “The Forty Rules of Love” by Elif Shafak. It was published in 2010.
Ok, so why did I choose it? Well, I went into a bookstore, I picked this book up, read the back cover and instantly this book clicked a chord in me, and I bought it. This is how I chose it, or maybe this is how the book chose me. 🙂
The story is set in two worlds. One is contemporary and the other is set in the thirteenth century.
The contemporary story revolves around two people – A married woman and a writer. It tells how these two persons, totally opposite, living in different continents, get in touch with each other and fall in love.
The thirteenth century story is about the famous poet- Rumi and his spiritual mentor Shams of Tabriz. Shams is a spiritual monk who illuminates the readers through his Forty Rules of Love.
The thirteenth century story is a novel called “Sweet Blasphemy” written by the writer, Aziz, in the contemporary world and the married woman, Ella, gets her first assignment to read this novel as a reader for a literary agent. And this is how both of them get to know each other through E-mails and develop a very sweet relationship.
I liked this novel very much. It engrosses the reader in both the worlds and makes the reader question “What is Love?”. The idea about love which I had, changed after I read this novel. All I would say is that this novel will make you PRAY, FEEL, and just LOVE!
I would say all of those, who believe in true love, should give this novel a try.
Cheers! 🙂

Not only am I engaged enough by your description of this book to read it, but you made what could have been a VERY complicated explanation very reader-friendly through the order in which you revealed information about the plot (and choosing carefully which info to reveal).

I tried my best to describe this book in a very simple manner and I appreciate that you liked it.
I’m also glad that my post made you put this book in your to-read list.
Thanks so much! 🙂
