Book Review: The Art of Hearing Heartbeats

51xu9rlfpql-_sx331_bo1204203200_

I was hooked right from the very first page of the book, like it was some kind of a spell. After such a long time, have I come across a book which soothes your mind and provides you solace, with its sweet love story written beautifully, almost magically by Jan-Philipp Sendker.

The Art of Hearing Heartbeats is a love story, but not a clichéd love story, I assure you! The author has weaved the story in such an exquisite manner that the reader cannot help but wonder about the intense connection between the two lovers, the passion that they have for each other, the unconditional love that is there in their hearts. This book surely is a 5-star and I would like to classify it as “un-put-downable”.

Below are some of my favourite quotes from the book:

  1. But a confession, a disclosure, is worthless when it comes at the wrong moment. If it’s too early, it overwhelms us. We are not ready for it and can’t yet appreciate it. If it’s too late, the opportunity is lost. The mistrust and the disappointment are already too great; the door is already closed. In either case, the very thing that ought to foster intimacy just creates distance.

  2. We wish to be loved as we ourselves would love. Any other way makes as uncomfortable. We respond with doubt and suspicion. We misinterpret the signs. We do not understand the language. We accuse. We assert that the other person does not love us. But perhaps he merely loves us in some idiosyncratic way that we fail to recognize.

  3. And so there must be in life something like a catastrophic turning point, when the world as we know cease to exist. A moment that transforms us into a different person from one heartbeat to the next. The moment when a lover confess that there’s someone else and that he’s leaving .or the day we bury a father or mother or best friend . Or the moment when the doctor informs us of a malignant brain tumor.

P.S. I am so glad I picked up this book at the Book Fair last month. Icing on the cake? Got it at a 60% discount. 😉

#DearMe

top_logo

This is a message that I have written for my 16-year-old (younger) self as a part of the #DearMe campaign:

Hey girl,

Right now everything must be all goody-good around you, and the only worry you must be having is your board exams. I’d tell you to not take tension about all these petty things- exams, looks, crushes, career, future!! Because in a few years, you’d realize what matters most and that is your family and nothing else. All that matters is that your family is happy and healthy; everything else is just sprinkles on the sundae. I’d ask you to enjoy each and every moment with your loved ones; go out with them, go out often, click loads and loads of pictures with mom dad and di, spend more and more time with them instead of trapping yourself in your room to study all the time. In a few years time, you’re gonna face a lot of challenges, you are gonna learn to be strong, you’ll learn how to remain positive in every situation, you’re gonna witness the real problems and you are also gonna come out of those strongly. In a few years, you will be away from your family and will long to be with them at every moment. People are gonna change, you are gonna change. You will learn some hard lessons after going through a lot of drama in your life. All I have to say is be strong and brave, be independent, smile often, respect yourself enough to walk away from what makes you unhappy, and enjoy life!! Do not care a bit about what others do, about what others are gonna say, about how others treat you!! Don’t be bothered by anything and anyone. Love your family and trust that everything’s gonna be alright in the end. You definitely are gonna be more than alright in a few years, girl! Just keep going!

Review: Every Day by David Levithan

Every Day
Every Day by David Levithan

My rating: 2 of 5 stars

I had high expectations from this book after reading the reviews on Goodreads, not to mention the interesting book cover and summary. But alas! I didn’t like it that much. I really didn’t feel there was any connection/ chemistry between A and Rhiannon. I am giving it two stars only for the awesome description of the regular family life that A misses. There are some awesome quotes that make one ponder over the kinda life one is living. As far as the love story of A and Rhiannon is concerned, there’s no spark, no chemistry, no true love from Rhiannon’s side, in my opinion. It is a very unexciting love story.

Some of the Many Little Things that I Love – Part One!

I wanted to write this post so that I never forget what I love to do and it would also help me in finding more about myself, to reflect and become aware of who I am as a person by way of knowing what little things I love to do.

Here are some of the little things that I take delight in:

  • I love when the sunlight enters my room through the windows. The excitement of opening the curtain and letting the daylight in, instead of switching on the lights is what I look forward to, the moment I wake up.
My Room!

My Room!

  • I simply love people-watching. I think I am a curious person and very observant, hence, this is one activity which I can do all day and not get tired.

  • Another thing which is very dear to me is giving customized presents to my friends and family like gifting customized t-shirts ‘The Best Dad’, hand-made birthday cards, friendship band with a message on it. I don’t mind spending time while choosing the gifts for my loved ones.
  • I love arranging the books on my shelf in a colorful order. Pink cover book adjacent to the orange one adjacent to the black one and so on.
  • I enjoy the weather in October and February, when it is neither too cold nor too hot.
  • Visiting the historic places makes me happy. These places fascinate me. When I am there, I wonder what it would have been like to be born in that era. I let my imagination go wild and I simply rejoice in it.

The Qutub Minar, Delhi.

These are the only things that I can remember as of now. As and when I come up with some more, I’ll post it in the next blog post.

What are some of the little things that you enjoy doing? I would love to know what makes you happy. Keep reading and commenting!

“AND WHEN WE MET…” – A Short Story

Leyton-leyton-40586_1024_768

Just when he is sitting in a library thinking how boring his life has become, a girl with big hazel eyes and long hair walks in the library. He looks at her and then looks at her again. She was the most beautiful girl he had ever seen in his life and he felt the love-at-first-sight feeling for the first time. She sits next to him and he somehow finds the courage to start the conversation.

“Um, Hi. I am Adam.” He says with a broad smile on his face.

“Okay.” She replies.

“Hmm. So she is playing hard to get.” He thinks.

“So, what’s your name?” he tries again.

“Not interested.” She replies curtly.

“Oh. It must be a very boring name then.” Saying so, he turns away.

“Excuse me. Who do you think you are?”

“Who do you think I am?”

When This Cruel War Is Over!!

This is the poem I read in the book “Gone with the Wind”. And ever since, It’s been my favorite poem of all time! However, It was a war song, originally written in 1863.

Dearest one, do you remember when we last did meet?

When you told me how you loved me kneeling at my feet.

Oh, how proud you stood before me in your suit of grey

When you vowed from me and country never to go astray

Weeping, sad and lonely, sighs and tears how vain!

When this cruel war is over

Pray that we meet again!

Some of my favorite songs!

  1. Empty Apartment by Yellowcard

Image

I heard this song first time in my favorite TV series- One Tree Hill. It’s beautifully written and composed. I heard that this song was dedicated by one of the band members to his ex-band mate and I feel that it’s a perfect dedication. The song always reminds me of my old friends whom I have lost touch with and wish I can get that time back.

My favourite lines in the song are:

“It’s okay to be angry and never let go

It only gets harder the more that you know

When you get lonely if no one’s around

You know that I’ll catch you when you’re falling down

We came together but you left alone

And I know how it feels to walk out on your own

May be someday I will see you again

And you’ll look me in my eyes and call me your friend”

2. Say all I need by One Republic

One republic is one of my favorite bands. Almost every song of theirs is my favourite. So it was difficult for me to choose just one song. Well, I find this song really motivating and encouraging. It makes you not to stop trying, not to give up. Problems keep coming and going. You just need to keep moving on.

3. One Day by Jack Savoretti

Image

It’s a romantic track. I heard it in the film Post Grad and it was my instant favorite  In the film it was about a guy, who is in love with his best friend but is hesitating to tell her. It’s a sweet song which I wish one day some guy sings for me too! 😉

Love these lines:

“I know you better than I know myself

How I feel is the only thing that I can never ever tell ya”

4. I loved her first by Heartland

Image

The best father-daughter song I have ever listened to. I just can’t explain in words how beautiful and soulful this song is. If you haven’t listened to it yet, then do it. And I’m sure you will love it and include it in your favorites too.

5. A Thousand Years by Christina Perri

love-couple

I’m glad that I didn’t miss this song in my life. I’m glad that Christina presented this song to us. It’s a romantic song about what a person feels when he/she finally meets the love of his/her life. I would say to all the romantics out there that this song is not to be missed!

And yes, my favorite lines:

And all along I believed

I would find you

Time has brought your heart to me

I have loved you

For a thousand years

I will love you

For a thousand more.

Well, that’s all for now. Keep blogging and keep exploring!
